About the picture

Taken in August 2023 in Oregon’s Willamette National Forest, this photo shows Addisen P. the summer after he graduated high school with Mr. Shomo’s son, David. Addisen had just begun training with the U.S. Forest Service through the Wildlands Fire Training program. After driving across the country, the crew arrived to help fight the Orwif Bedrock Fire. The photo was taken at a remote work site with a stunning view overlooking the forest.
